15 MINUTES TO PROTECT A TANK FOR DECADES

How PlatePro™ is changing tank-bottom CP across Saudi Arabia.

At the Shuaiba plant, engineers stood beside a 13-metre water tank and watched something rare in cathodic protection: the core system went in in under 15 minutes. That system was PlatePro™,  Ducorr Arabia’s protection for above-ground storage tank bottoms and it set the pace for several tanks on the same award.

PlatePro™ was installed in under 15 minutes at Shuaiba

Ducorr Arabia was awarded the cathodic protection of the bottom plates on several water tanks at Shuaiba, with the first installation establishing a rapid approach for the remainder of the project.

Tank bottom corrosion is among the industry’s most challenging problems because damage can develop beneath the tank floor and foundation, remaining largely invisible until it results in leakage or structural concerns. Industry estimates put the cost of corrosion across the Middle East at about USD 200 billion a year. Traditional cathodic protection systems can arrive as kits of individual components requiring assembly, splicing and testing on site. These activities can add time and complexity, particularly when projects are working within tight construction or shutdown schedules.

PlatePro™ is designed to simplify that process. The system is factory-built and tested before arriving at site, allowing installation teams to connect the system rather than assemble it.

The customer’s Project Manager, Sandy Almogino, highlighted the difference: “The system came ready to install rather than ready to assemble.”

For project teams, this approach can reduce installation time, site interfaces and potential opportunities for installation errors while helping projects maintain construction schedules. PlatePro™ reflects Ducorr’s wider mission to re-engineer cathodic protection and make systems 10x easier to purchase, install and operate.

Factory-built systems simplify installation and reduce site interfaces

The company’s plug-and-play approach is designed to make corrosion protection more accessible while delivering the reliability required for long-term asset protection. Faster installation can contribute to lower project costs, while simplified systems can reduce the complexity associated with specialist installation and commissioning.

The Shuaiba project forms part of Ducorr’s expanding portfolio in Saudi Arabia. The company recently completed cathodic protection works for the quay wall marine structure at the Port of NEOM in Oxagon. Ducorr is also in the final stages of completing an impressed current cathodic protection system for chloride-contaminated reinforced concrete at Sumou Towers in Jeddah. The company’s growth in the Kingdom is supported by its partnership with DAC Group, a subsidiary of Buna Holding.

Hassan Sheikh, CEO of Ducorr, said: “Our partnership with DAC Group (a subsidiary of Buna Holding) has allowed Ducorr to grow under the group umbrella. DAC is building out an integrated specialist contractor, and Ducorr is a key part of that.”

Cathodic protection can play an important role in extending the service life of infrastructure and reducing the need for premature repair or replacement. When incorporated into projects from the outset, corrosion protection systems can help extend the operational life of structures to more than 50 years and, in some applications, up to 100 years. For Saudi Arabia’s expanding infrastructure landscape, longer-lasting assets can help reduce the materials, carbon emissions and disruption associated with rebuilding and major interventions.

From storage tanks and marine structures to tunnels, bridges, culverts and oil and gas facilities, Ducorr is positioning cathodic protection as an integral component of long-term asset performance.

Ducorr is expanding its cathodic protection footprint across Saudi Arabia

Ducorr designs, supplies and installs cathodic protection systems for marine, infrastructure, and oil and gas assets across the Middle East and beyond. The company also provides leak detection for water infrastructure. Its vision is to make cathodic protection easier to use, install and operate, helping establish corrosion protection as a standard consideration for infrastructure projects.
