One of the biggest projects of its kind in the world, Riyadh Metro, currently under construction, is set to be a rapid transit system that will cover an area of 109 miles and run across the desert, according to Railway Technology.
This $22 billion project, which will comprise a metro network, in addition to a bus network and other transport services, will have six lines and 85 stations, helping to transform Riyadh into an international business hub and improving its image on a global scale.

The project has faced many challenges, including harsh weather conditions and the unavailability of materials, but despite this, it is still expected to open in 2025.
With Saudi Arabia set to host the World Expo 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup, the Kingdom is banking on the new metro mega-project to help transform its economy and enhance its reputation.
