Petro Rabigh has announced that it has signed a CO2 Capture and Sales Project Agreement with Gulf Cryo Company, a project that aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Circular Carbon Economic Concept, as well as the Saudi Vision 2030’s ambitious programs, which are aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the Kingdom.
The Agreement was signed in Rabigh by Petro Rabigh President and CEO Othman A Al-Ghamdi and Gulf Cryo Chairman, Amer Al-Huneidi, establishing a new strategic collaboration that reinforces the commitment of both companies to enhancing local content and securing a resilient supply chain and sustainable business environment.
Part of the total captured and highly-purified gas will be transformed into a food-grade quality
Part of the total captured and highly-purified gas will be transformed into a food-grade quality with a volume of 300 metric tonnes per day.
Petro Rabigh will receive it via a pipeline for its internal processes. The leftover CO2 will be sent to industrial end-users in liquid form, replacing fossil fuel-burning facilities and contributing to a more ecologically responsible economy. In return, the captured and purified CO2 emissions are used as a valuable resource in the oil and gas, desalination, food and beverage, cement, and agriculture industries for food-grade gas applications.
The project will begin in August 2022 and will be completed in Q3 2023.
