Drone footage has revealed the beginning of the construction phase of the sci-fi megacity, ‘The Line’ – a 170-kilometer-long city where people will live and work without ever having to leave.
The Line made news this summer for its elegant approach to city-building, with a mirrored facade that houses a completely self-contained megalopolis 500 meters tall, 200 meters wide, and 170 kilometers long.

The video uploaded to YouTube was shot by the Saudi Arabian business Ot Sky. In the drone footage, as The Line’s enormous imprint is excavated from the sand, joyful music plays while images of vehicles and construction tools scattered throughout the desert are seen.
NEOM, a company established by the Saudi Arabian government to recreate the nation through design, engineering, and sustainability, is the company behind The Line. NEOM says that the city will include several neighborhoods that can be walked across in five minutes, end-to-end transit that takes 20 minutes, and a continual micro-climate.
