Abengoa has announced that, in tandem with its consortium partners Sepco III (Power China) and Sidem (Veolia), it has received the ‘Project Taking Over Certificate’ of the 600,000 m3/day desalination plant it has built for ACWA Power in the city of Rabigh.
Rabigh 3 is the world’s largest reverse osmosis desalination plant in commercial use and is now supplying water to the network at full capacity. The hard work of the plant’s construction crew, which has seen many challenges such as the Covid-19 outbreak, has allowed it to reach this significant milestone.
More than three million people in Makkah, Al-Mokarramah, Jeddah, and Mastorah get their drinking water from Rabigh 3
More than three million people in Makkah, Al-Mokarramah, Jeddah, and Mastorah get their drinking water from the Rabigh 3 desalination plant. It is a significant reference in the desalination industry not only because of its size, but also because its design and construction demonstrate efficiency, creativity, and sustainability, allowing it to minimise energy consumption and boost plant availability.
So far, the Rabigh 3 project has functioned for more than six million hours without a lost-time accident, establishing the highest levels of occupational risk prevention standards and meeting the set health and safety goals.
