In partnership with local companies, Tawzea and Tamasuk, Acciona has reached a major milestone at three critical sewage treatment plants that have been commissioned by the Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC).
Acciona is carrying out the comprehensive development, design, financing, and construction, and will continue to operate and maintain these facilities for the next 25 years. The plants, specifically Madinah-3, Buraydah-2, and Tabuk-2, have collectively reached an impressive one million man-hours without a single Lost-Time Injury (LTI). This is a significant safety milestone for the three wastewater treatment plants that are expected to collectively serve over two million inhabitants once operational.

The contracts for these three wastewater treatment plants mark Acciona’s first BOOT/EPC (Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer/Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracts for wastewater treatment in the Middle East, with its role extending to not only constructing the facilities but also managing their development, design, financing, operation, and maintenance.
Upon completion, the Madinah-3 (with a capacity of 200,000 m³/day, expandable to 375,000 m³/day), Buraydah-2 (150,000 m³/day), and Tabuk-2 (90,000 m³/day) wastewater treatment plants will efficiently treat urban wastewater from more than two million inhabitants.
