Nestled in the mountains of southwestern Saudi Arabia, Al Baha City, the capital of the Al Baha Region, is renowned for its cool climate, lush forests, dramatic landscapes, and rich cultural heritage. Often described as one of the Kingdom’s premier summer destinations, the city has long attracted visitors seeking an alternative to the desert climate found elsewhere in Saudi Arabia. Today, however, Al Baha is becoming known for much more than its natural beauty. Under Saudi Vision 2030, the region is rapidly evolving through a comprehensive program of infrastructure, tourism, housing, and quality-of-life developments designed to strengthen its economy while preserving its unique environmental identity.
SAR1.67 billion invested in transformative municipal projects
Recent momentum has been reinforced following the visit of Minister of Municipalities and Housing Majed bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, who reviewed ongoing municipal and housing developments across the region. During the visit, completed projects were inaugurated and foundation stones laid for new initiatives with a combined value exceeding SAR1.67 billion, highlighting the government’s continued commitment to balanced regional development.
The investment program spans a wide range of projects designed to improve everyday life for residents while strengthening Al Baha’s appeal as a tourism and investment destination. Municipal developments include new and upgraded roads, sidewalks, street lighting, flood mitigation infrastructure, parks, recreational facilities, and public spaces that enhance connectivity, safety, and accessibility throughout the city and surrounding governorates. Housing developments, including the Telal Al Baha project and new developmental housing communities, further support the region’s growing population and long-term economic ambitions.
Tourism, infrastructure, and housing advancing together
Alongside essential infrastructure, Al Baha Municipality continues to invest heavily in visitor attractions that celebrate the region’s spectacular landscape. The Minister toured several flagship developments, including the Al Baha Plaza Project, Qumrah Honey Garden Observation Deck, Bahjat Raghdan Park, Lavender Walk, and the Makamaya tourist accommodation project. Together, these initiatives are designed to strengthen tourism, create new investment opportunities, and provide year-round destinations for residents and visitors alike.
Green spaces and public destinations continue expanding
Environmental sustainability remains a central pillar of the municipality’s strategy. Earlier this year, Al Baha launched its ambitious “Legacy of Green Al Baha” initiative, aiming to plant more than 20,000 native trees across parks, public squares, walkways, and central islands throughout the region. Supported by government agencies, community organizations, and hundreds of volunteers, the initiative also incorporates smart irrigation systems and increases the use of treated water, demonstrating how environmental stewardship can complement urban growth.
Safer, sustainable and livable cities while preserving Al Baha’s distinctive character
Infrastructure resilience is also receiving significant attention. Flood drainage systems, crossings, road improvements, and city enhancement projects are being delivered alongside quality-of-life initiatives that humanize public spaces and encourage walking, recreation, and community interaction. These projects reflect the municipality’s long-term objective of building safer, more sustainable, and more livable cities while preserving Al Baha’s distinctive character.
Equally important is the municipality’s commitment to engaging local communities and investors. During his visit, Minister Al-Hogail met with business leaders, investors, and residents to discuss future opportunities and review the progress of regional development initiatives. The collaborative approach reinforces the Kingdom’s broader Vision 2030 objective of encouraging public-private partnerships that generate economic diversification and long-term investment.
As His Excellency Majed bin Abdullah Al-Hogail emphasized during the visit, the projects are intended to “advance infrastructure and improve services for residents and visitors.” That vision is becoming increasingly evident across Al Baha, where strategic investment is transforming one of Saudi Arabia’s most picturesque regions into a thriving destination for tourism, business, and sustainable urban living.
