AlUla has unveiled plans for three new luxury hotels that will help to emphasize the region’s beauty, diversity, and rich history.
Jean Nouvel’s design for Sharaan Resort is inspired by the ancient know-how of the Nabataean people, who created their monuments as integral to the surrounding terrain more than 2,000 years ago. The resort will feature 53 keys divided among suites, hospitality pavilions, and villas built into the mountain of Sharaan Nature Reserve.
The second hotel is the Chedi Hegra, which will be the first hotel in the Kingdom’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hegra. The heritage boutique hotel, which is expected to open in Q4 2023, will include 35 guest rooms, each with a unique connection to Hegra’s magnificent landscape and environment.
30 guest rooms following the renovation and repurposing of historic mud-brick structures with up-to-the-minute engineering and time-honored materials and techniques
Dar Tantora by The House Hotel, an exclusive eco-lodge, is currently under construction in AlUla Old Town and is scheduled to open in 2024. It will offer 30 guest rooms following the renovation and repurposing of historic mud-brick structures with up-to-the-minute engineering and time-honored materials and techniques.
Phillip Jones, Chief Tourism Officer at the Royal Commission of AlUla (RCU), said: “With their combination of audacity, authenticity, sustainability and luxury, these hotels celebrate what makes AlUla a special destination for travelers seeking a distinct blend of comfort and adventure. Such sophisticated properties are intended to deepen the connection between guests and the extraordinary historic landscape of AlUla. These properties also move us nearer towards meeting our goal of 5,000 keys by 2030 to cater to our growing visitor numbers.”
AlUla anticipates 250,000 visitors in 2023, up from 185,000 in 2022
The three hotels will generate hundreds of jobs for the AlUla region while, at the same time, emphasizing sustainability in accordance with the AlUla Sustainability Charter.
AlUla anticipates 250,000 visitors in 2023, up from 185,000 in 2022. The three properties are expected to make a substantial contribution to the local economy and enhance the region’s community development goals by opening up an array of options for new jobs and career routes for citizens.
