Diriyah Development Company, a development subsidiary of Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA), has awarded its largest contract to date for the construction of Diriyah Square’s ‘super basement’ car park to Salini Saudi Arabia Co. Ltd. a subsidiary of Salini Impregilo. The value of the contract is SAR 3.99 Billion ($1.06 billion).
The state-of-the-art three-level underground parking lot underpins the dynamic Diriyah Square commercial heart of the culture and heritage giga-project. The mixed-use zone, which is expected to open in 2024, will include leisure and entertainment, ultra-luxury hotels, shops, grade A offices, the King Salman Grand Mosque, and residential units fashioned in the traditional Najdi architectural style.
The car park, which has a floor area of about one million square meters and can hold 10,500 cars, has an extensive network of underground roadways and tunnels located beneath Diriyah Square with various entrance points.

Jerry Inzerillo, Group CEO, DGDA, explained: “Diriyah Square’s forthcoming underground car park is an integral component of our development’s design, ensuring beautification and safety within our urban pedestrian spaces for visitors and the local community. An estimated 9,000 local jobs will result from this aspect of the project, further contributing to His Royal Highness The Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman’s Vision 2030.”
A key element of the parking lot is that it allows for continuous traffic flow and connection with Riyadh’s existing road network. The innovative road system, which will be a significant component of the City of Riyadh Arterial Road System, will connect commuters to all of Diriyah’s destinations, including Wadi Hanifah, the Western Ring Road, and a national motorway.

The car park construction is a complex project that will connect to the existing road and transit network and contain more than two kilometers of four-lane tunnels. Salini will be in charge of the three-level underground foundation construction, which will include all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing, as well as fire, safety, and fit-out. 700,000m2 of concrete, 90,000 tonnes of steel reinforcement, and 1,600,000m2 of formwork will be incorporated into the structure.
