Industrie De Nora S.p.A. – Italy has announced that it has been awarded contracts for the second phase of the Al Jubail Desalination Plant upgrade, a Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) initiative.
With the use of major De Nora technologies, the facility will become the world’s largest Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant, producing up to one million cubic metres of seawater per day.

De Nora will make available three proprietary technologies: SEACLOR® system for biofouling control of seawater intake via electro-chlorination; DE NORA TETRA® underdrain filters as a trouble-free solution for pre-treatment prior to reverse osmosis; and Capital Controls® Underwater Chlorine Dioxide Generators for the final disinfection of potable water, a safe patented technology ensuring premium water quality.

The collaboration includes the provision of ongoing support during installation and operation, allowing SWCC to benefit from lower life cycle costs over the course of the project.

Construction at Al Jubail is already rolling, with De Nora systems expected to be delivered later this year. Potable water will be transferred over 14 kilometers to existing Eastern Province water transmission system (EPWTS) reservoir stations in Marafiq, Jubail’s industrial hub, once completed in 2024.
