The Al Shuqaiq 3 IWP project has been officially inaugurated under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Emirate of Jazan Province, and His Excellency Abdulrahman Al Fadley, Minister of Environment and Water.
SWPC has entrusted Egis with the design review, site supervision, and contract administration of the Al Shuqaiq 3 Desalination Plant, which is located on the Red Sea coast in the town of Shuqaiq. “We are proud to be part of such a sustainable and innovative project which is aligned to both Saudi Vision 2030 and the Egis vision. With over 60 years of experience in the water sector, we are pleased to be part of this project, which will supply more than 1.8 million people with drinking water, addressing one of the key challenges of our planet, particularly in this region where water is a scarce resource due to the extremely dry conditions,” said Laure Russier, Middle East Director – Water, Ports, Energy, Environment and Major Structures.
The Al Shuqaiq 3 Desalination Plant is one of the region’s most sophisticated and innovative plants, having earned the ‘Utilities Project of the Year’ title at the Middle East Energy Awards 2019, making it one of the region’s most notable new infrastructure projects.
Emphasizing the success of the project, Project Manager Mohammad Alsulymani commented: “The project successfully completed 9,281,729 safe man-hours with Zero LTI. The project successfully dispatched water on 10 October 2021, earlier than expected, and was commercially operational by the 9 January 2022.”
