Egis has secured a significant contract with the Al Madinah Region Development Authority (MDA). The contract is for providing Project Management and Construction Management (PMCM) services for the highly anticipated Madinah Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. This project is a cornerstone of the city’s extensive transportation upgrade, aligning with the broader goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, particularly the Pilgrim Experience Program.
The Madinah BRT project represents a critical component of the city’s ambitious plan to enhance its public transportation network. This project is set to establish up to 500 stations by 2030, with the aim of achieving 80-90% area coverage, thereby significantly improving accessibility across Madinah. The primary objectives include offering a more convenient travel experience for residents, visitors, and pilgrims, reducing traffic congestion, and providing a safe, sustainable mode of transport.
“Commitment to sustainable transportation development.”
Egis has formed a joint venture (JV) with Systra, combining their expertise to deliver the comprehensive PMCM services required for the implementation of the Madinah Bus Network. This network will include the BRT system, priority bus services, and feeder services, ensuring a seamless and efficient public transport experience throughout the city.
The JV’s responsibilities extend beyond traditional project management to include engineering supervision and oversight across all phases of design, construction, testing, and operation. Moreover, the JV will be deeply involved in the safety and security management of various systems. This includes the buses, depots, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and operational systems, as well as civil infrastructure like bus lanes, stations, stops, footbridges, and park-and-ride facilities.
“Up to 500 stations by 2030.”
Omar Benzaria, Transportation Director for Egis in the Middle East and South Asia, emphasized the strategic importance of this project, stating, “This project aligns perfectly with Egis’ core expertise in transportation infrastructure, and we are committed to delivering a sustainable and efficient BRT system that meets the needs of Al Madinah’s residents and visitors.” He further highlighted the value of the partnership, noting that it reflects a shared dedication to leveraging global expertise for the sustainable development of transportation systems, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
“Shared dedication to sustainable development.”
The Madinah BRT project is poised to play a crucial role in the transformation of the city’s transportation landscape, facilitating easier movement for millions of pilgrims and residents while contributing to the broader economic and social goals of the Kingdom.
