In an estimated SR20 billion ($5 billion) deal, NEOM has chosen the Italian contractor WeBuild to construct the dams that will form the man-made lake in the center of the Trojena mountain resort, which is set to host the Asian Winter Games in 2029.
The main dam, with a height of 145 meters and a length of 475 meters, will be built using 2.7 million cubic meters of roller compact concrete (RCC).
To create an island below the water, a dam within the proposed lake will be constructed using about 650,000 cubic meters of RCC. This kidney-shaped dam will measure 700 meters in length and 38 meters in height. An underwater tunnel will link it to Lake Village, which is located nearby. The Enchanted Forest is the name given to the landscaping and additional features inside the dam.

The third dam will be 490 meters long and 65 meters high. 4.15 million cubic meters of rockfill will be used in its construction. The lakebed line and the foundations for the Bow Building, a concrete structure at the lake’s terminus that will jut into the valley below and house a hotel, are also part of the works.
Launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Trojena is set to be a year-round tourist destination. It will include a ski village, family and wellness resorts, retail food and beverage facilities, and sports amenities such as water sports and mountain biking. An interactive nature reserve is also planned. The project is due to be completed by 2026.
