The amount of phosphate in the Northern Border Region represents 7% of the global reserve. The phosphate is located in Turaif city, specifically in Waad Al-Shamal Industrial City, which gives a developmental, economic and social dimension to the Northern Border Region.
Waad Al-Shamal Industrial City covers an area of 290 km and an area of 150 million meters specified for the phosphate industry only. The industrial city includes a service area, a center for conventional gas production, an industrial area, a residential area and a mining institute. Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma’aden) undertook the construction of the city’s infrastructure.
Waad Al-Shamal Industrial City was the last pumping station on the previous Trans-Arabian Pipeline. Today, it has become the first station of the giant national phosphate industry chain, which starts from this complex. Waad Al-Shamal’s production is estimated at 3 million tons of fertilizers, in addition to 22,000 tons of manufacturing products.
