ILF Consulting Engineers has been engaged by Red Sea Global as an independent engineer for the implementation phase of a major carbon-neutral utility system.
A consortium headed by leading Saudi utility developer Acwa Power is developing the project, which is expected to cost around $1.5 billion, through the PPP (public-private partnership) model.
When completed, the project will provide renewable energy, potable water, wastewater treatment, district cooling, and solid waste treatment services for 16 hotels, an international airport, and infrastructure that comprise Phase One of The Red Sea destination.

According to a company spokesman, the renewable energy for the project will be supplied by a solar PV plant with a capacity of 340 MWac, a 1,200MW BESS (battery energy storage system), and an internal combustion engine with a capacity of 108.98 MW.
A seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant will provide approximately 32,500 cu m of potable water per day, while its district cooling capability will be approximately 32,500 RT.
