Riyadh Metro, the world’s largest public transportation network project, will launch in March said Fahd Al-Rasheed, the CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City.
In a statement, Al-Rasheed revealed that the King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project will commence “at the beginning of this year, to be followed by subsequent phases at close intervals.”
The Riyadh Metro project is estimated to cost $22.5 billion and, the largest public transport network project in the world, features a length of approximately 176 kilometers of railway lines, on which electric trains operate without drivers. Furthermore, 40% of the train route will be underground, allowing transit activity to continue in its native form.
Riyadh Metro is the largest public transport network project in the world
Al-Rasheed was speaking at Saudi Arabia’s Misk Foundation Youth Majlis at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He disclosed that the city has over 30 mega projects on the go, including Qiddiya, Diriyah, King Salman Park, and the Riyadh Metro. “They’re launched and we’re closing in on many of them, especially the metro.” Riyadh Metro is the largest single-phase public transport project ever developed.
