SEA TO AIR LOGISTICS ACCELERATES

Integrated Corridor Links Saudi Ports and Airports to Streamline Global Cargo Flows.

As the Kingdom strengthens its position as a global logistics hub under Vision 2030, Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) is playing a pivotal role in advancing multimodal connectivity. In its latest strategic move, Mawani has joined forces with Saudia Cargo and Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) to launch a sea-to-air logistics corridor along the Kingdom’s western coast.

Seamless port-to-airport cargo transfer enhances logistics efficiency

The initiative introduces integrated logistics routes that connect seaports with airports, enabling cargo to shift seamlessly between maritime and air transport. Designed to respond to evolving global shipping patterns and air freight schedules, the corridor enhances supply chain resilience while maintaining the speed and efficiency required by international markets.

Jeddah Islamic Port anchors western corridor operations

At the heart of the program is Jeddah Islamic Port, where initial operations are already underway. The port serves as a key entry point for maritime shipments, which are then rapidly transferred to air cargo hubs for onward distribution. This coordinated approach significantly reduces transit times while offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional logistics routes.

Single customs declaration accelerates cargo clearance processes

ZATCA’s integrated customs framework is a critical enabler of the corridor’s success. By allowing shipments to move under a single customs declaration, supported by pre-clearance processes and smart inspection technologies, cargo can transition from port to runway with minimal delay. This streamlined regulatory environment reinforces Saudi Arabia’s reputation as a secure and efficient logistics gateway bridging East and West.

Mawani investments boost capacity, connectivity, and digital transformation

For Mawani, the development aligns with its broader strategy to enhance port efficiency, expand connectivity, and support the Kingdom’s ambitions to become a leading global logistics platform. Recent updates from Mawani highlight continued investments in port infrastructure, digitalization, and private sector partnerships, including capacity expansions across major terminals and the introduction of advanced cargo handling systems to improve throughput and operational performance.

Meanwhile, Saudia Cargo continues to leverage its extensive international network, spanning around 100 airport destinations and 250 customer destinations to ensure the smooth movement of goods across continents. Its role in the corridor underscores the growing importance of integrated logistics solutions that combine maritime scale with air freight speed.

The sea-to-air corridor also supports a wide range of cargo types, from e-commerce and pharmaceuticals to perishables and high-value shipments. By enabling flexible routing options, the initiative allows businesses to adapt quickly to disruptions while maintaining continuity in supply chains.

As global trade dynamics continue to shift, collaborations such as this demonstrate how Saudi Arabia is proactively reshaping its logistics ecosystem. Through the combined efforts of Mawani, Saudia Cargo, and ZATCA, the Kingdom is not only safeguarding cargo flows but also reinforcing its strategic position as a vital link in international trade.
