Shopping malls are being asked to intensify their efforts to offer more than an opportunity to shop. While in the past, celebrated retail stores might have been enough to attract people, today customers expect a good deal more. And that’s exactly what they will get at Karam Mall, as Abdulrahman Abdullah Alabdulkarim, Chairman of Karam Mall explains.
Saudi Projects: What is the overall vision and philosophy of Karam Mall?
Abdulrahman Abdullah Alabdulkarim: The simple answer is to keep Karam Mall the most entertaining place not only in Majmaah, but in the entire Sudair region. We aim to build the most up-to-date and forward-looking shopping mall to the very highest international standards, carefully selecting our retail stores and restaurants to ensure that our visitors have an enjoyable time.
SPM: Who is the developer, why did you build it?
AA: The developer is Karam Real Estate and it is being built to provide top-notch shopping and entertainment for residents of the Sudair region. We will be bringing more international brands to the city, offer convenience – residents will no longer need to travel to Riyadh or other large cities for a similar experience – and win long-term investment.

SPM: Who would you say is your typical visitor customer – who are you trying to attract? What initiatives do you have in place to boost footfall?
AA: Visitors will be residents of Majmaah and the surrounding cities who are looking for quality products at attactive prices. Around 20% of products on sale will be well-known local brands, whilst 80% will be leading international brands. Constant promotional activities will boost footfall.
SPM: Can you name some of the leading brands you have attracted and are any of these new to the region?
AA: Those brands new to the region will include leading names such as AMC Cinemas, Panda and Fanta Park.
SPM: How many retail outlets are there in total, and what else does Karam Mall offer, such as dining or entertainment?
AA: Karam Mall will offer more than 40 retail outlets, in excess of 15 high class international restaurants, and 30-plus outlets for other categories such as cosmetics, health and beauty, perfume and oud, mobile phones and accessories, watches and jewellery, chocolate, confectionary and ice cream. There will also be a 4500m2 theme park, with new games to the region such as a Rope Course, Water Games and Car Karting, plus a supermarket and a five screen cinema with more than 800 seats. There will also be big anchor stores for electronics and home goods.

AA: The Destination.
