CAPTURING THE ESSENCE OF SAUDI ARABIA’S TRANSFORMATION THROUGH COMPELLING VISUAL STORYTELLING AND INSIGHTS.
SAUDI PROJECTS recently spoke with Waseem Asmar, the founder of Spectrum Lens, in an exclusive interview to explore how photography, videography, and drone technology are elevating real estate and construction visibility across Saudi Arabia. From large-scale time-lapse installations to secure surveillance systems, Waseem Asmar shares how Spectrum Lens is not only documenting but also shaping how the built environment is presented, locally and globally.
As Saudi Arabia continues its transformation under Vision 2030, visual media has become a powerful tool in marketing, transparency, and project accountability. In this Q&A, SAUDI PROJECTS dives into the processes, technologies, and philosophies that make Spectrum Lens a standout name in this evolving space.
SAUDI PROJECTS: Can you tell us about the origins of Spectrum Lens and what inspired you to focus on real estate, construction, and surveillance photography and videography?
WASEEM ASMAR: Spectrum Lens was born from my extensive experience in photography and videography, particularly in real estate and construction. After spending almost two decades capturing the beauty of various subjects, I recognized a unique opportunity to specialize in these sectors. The intricate details and dynamic nature of construction projects fascinated me, and I saw how high-quality visuals could significantly enhance marketing efforts and project visibility.
SAUDI PROJECTS: What sets Spectrum Lens apart in the highly competitive field of visual media, especially when it comes to construction timelapse and real estate imaging?
WASEEM ASMAR: What sets Spectrum Lens apart is our commitment to excellence and innovation. We combine state-of-the-art technology with artistic vision, ensuring that our imagery not only documents but also tells a story. Our proprietary techniques in time-lapse photography and our deep understanding of real estate marketing enable us to deliver unparalleled results that resonate with clients and stakeholders alike. Additionally, our expertise in professional architectural photography, recognized with the AUOP-EU award in 2009, adds significant value to our offerings.
SAUDI PROJECTS: In what ways have you seen professional photography and videography impact the success of real estate sales or project visibility for developers in Saudi Arabia?
WASEEM ASMAR: Professional photography and videography have a profound impact on real estate sales. High-quality visuals create a compelling narrative that attracts potential buyers and investors. In Saudi Arabia, where the market is rapidly evolving, striking imagery can differentiate a project, enhance marketing campaigns, and ultimately lead to quicker sales and increased visibility for developers.
SAUDI PROJECTS: Can you walk us through your process when covering a large-scale construction project from groundbreaking to completion?

WASEEM ASMAR: My process begins with thorough planning and collaboration with the project team. We establish key milestones and determine the best angles and times for capturing imagery. Throughout the project, I maintain regular communication with stakeholders to ensure that we document every significant phase, from groundbreaking through to completion, allowing for a comprehensive visual archive.
SAUDI PROJECTS: Timelapse photography requires precision over extended periods. What are some of the unique challenges you face in this niche, and how do you overcome them?
WASEEM ASMAR: Some challenges include managing equipment in varying weather conditions and ensuring consistent power supply and connectivity over long durations. I address these by using industrial-grade equipment designed for durability and reliability. Additionally, I implement backup systems and remote monitoring to maintain seamless operation. The importance of time-lapse systems extends to all engaged parties: project owners, consultants, contractors, and developers. These systems provide transparent documentation of progress, enhancing communication and trust among stakeholders.
SAUDI PROJECTS: How do you ensure your surveillance footage for construction and infrastructure projects remains secure and compliant with local regulations?
WASEEM ASMAR: We take security very seriously at Spectrum Lens. Our footage is stored on secure servers with restricted access, and we comply with all local regulations regarding surveillance including local data hosting and 256-bit military grade encryption. We use cutting-edge Australian made industrial grade controller and our installed professional camera with interchangeable lens is not directly connected to internet. Regular audits and updates to our security protocols ensure that we meet compliance standards and protect our clients’ privacy.
SAUDI PROJECTS: How has drone technology evolved your business, and what types of drone work are most in demand with your clients today?
WASEEM ASMAR: Drone technology has revolutionized our approach to aerial photography and videography, providing unique perspectives that were previously unattainable. Clients often request drone footage for site surveys, marketing materials, and progress tracking, as it offers comprehensive views of large-scale projects and enhances storytelling.
SAUDI PROJECTS: Spectrum Lens works closely with real estate developers. How do you tailor your services to meet their evolving marketing and documentation needs?
WASEEM ASMAR: We prioritize understanding each developer’s specific goals and challenges. By offering customizable packages that include various types of photography, videography, and marketing support, we ensure that our services align with their evolving needs, whether it’s for project launches or ongoing documentation and documentaries productions.
SAUDI PROJECTS: Sustainability and smart cities are major focuses in Saudi’s Vision 2030. How do your visuals contribute to communicating progress and innovation in these areas?

WASEEM ASMAR: Our visuals play a crucial role in showcasing the advancements in sustainable architecture and smart city initiatives. By highlighting innovative designs and construction methods, we help convey the message of progress and commitment to sustainability, aligning with the goals of Vision 2030.
SAUDI PROJECTS: With rapid development across Saudi Arabia, how do you scale your operations to meet demand across multiple regions or mega-projects?
WASEEM ASMAR: Scaling operations involves building a reliable network of local professionals and leveraging advanced technology for efficient project management. We also invest in training our team to ensure consistency in quality and service, enabling us to meet the demands of multiple regions and projects simultaneously.
SAUDI PROJECTS: What’s next for Spectrum Lens? Are there any emerging technologies or services you’re looking to introduce in the near future?
WASEEM ASMAR: We are excited to explore the integration of AI-driven analytics in our visual media services, which can provide deeper insights into project performance and audience engagement. Additionally, we plan to introduce unique and cutting-edge 4K surveillance security systems to enhance our offerings, along with expanding our drone capabilities and introducing virtual reality experiences to offer clients immersive ways to showcase their developments. Furthermore, we are looking to expand into Syria, starting with a back office that will eventually evolve into a full branch. This move is strategic, considering the anticipated rebuilding efforts post-war and my established network of professionals and leaders in the region, positioning Spectrum Lens to play a pivotal role in the upcoming reconstruction efforts.
